My moment in time scared
I was walking down the stairs. I could hear the wind howling against me. I smelt the smell of spices. I see a shadow around the corner of the stairs. I keep on walking I hear banging in the kitchen even though know one was here exeped for me and my uncle but he was upstairs. Should I go down stairs and find out what the noise is or go back upstairs. I take one more step and Ahh!!!!

The learners had six activities to choose from to extend their knowledge about Space. Charlotte, Shaval and Selestine chose to take part in one that required problem solving and thinking skills. They had the option to make either a Mars Rover or a Satellite and picked to do the Mars Rover. With the provided materials, Charlotte, Shaval and Selestine had to make a connection between their own version and the image that was shown on the screen. The girls showed curiosity by using the materials in specific ways and both tried to use as much detail as possible in their creation. Charlotte, Shaval and Selestine collaborated by sharing ideas and possible ways to overcome issues, ultimately being very pleased with their final product.

For literacy the Death Star group are starting Literacy Circles. This is a learner book club where they are in charge of their learning and have roles they need to perform in the group meetings about the text. We started with breaking down what we view as an effective group and the different things we need to accomplish for the literacy circle. We brainstormed many ideas and created a wordle to present our findings. Also we did the same for what an effective group member looks like. We had our first meeting today and we managed to get through most of the roles before the time was up. This means that for next time the learners are going to have direct the meeting and not get of topic. This will help the learners break down the text and understand it better. The learners have been showing the Vision Principles of Capable and Collaborate as the learners are working as a group and having to use the reading skills and strategies they have to produce a high understanding of the text.

Math by Myself : Addition
Learner: Selestine Learning Coach: N.Denuwara Date: Term 1
|
Learning Area: Math: Addition
|
Learning Observed, Key Competencies/ Vision Principles
|
This week Selestine has been focusing on addition and subtraction at school. Her math task was to do Math by Myself, which is part of the math daily 3. Math by myself involves her participating in an activity that she has to do on her own. The Math by Myself activities promote managing self and connecting with prior and current knowledge to execute the task. During this particular task, shown below, Selestine was asked to use the coloured lego blocks to show the equation on each addition flashcards. She had to connect the lego using the different colours to represent one set of numbers in the equation. Selestine has shown fantastic capabilities in using materials to add sums.

Selestine can use her knowledge of addition to solve word problems, which is what she will be doing next in math. Solving word problems develops skills in visualising the scenario presented in the problem for the purpose of solving the equation.
