The genre selected for this year was persuasive writing. During Term 2 the “Quick Write” sessions that happen after first iBreak were focussed on developing persuasive writing techniques so Selestine had gained lots of skills for writing to persuade a person to consider her viewpoint, and was very capable at stating her opinion and then supporting her ideas with additional details. She practiced considering both pros and cons of arguments. This is challenging when you don’t agree with a statement. Selestine didn’t make the deadline but she did persevere and complete her speech and present it to her hapu group.
Selestine decided she wanted to persuade her audience that “kids should not be paid to do chores” Selestine is passionate about this as it directly connects with her family ethics and their common understanding of every member having fanau responsibilities.
She presented her speech to her hapu group in a breakout space. She didn’t have her cue cards and so used her device and scrolled down the text. You can open the link to read the feedback and feedforward below and watch her video. She connected to her audience with her vivacious facial expressions and intonation of her voice.

Next Learning Steps
|
Selestine needs to:
*take the opportunity to enter the school’s speech competition next year.
*publish your speech in your Learning Pathway as evidence of learning during Term 3.
*make an occasion and present your speech sharing your capabilities with your extended fanau.
* set up a system to keep yourself on track next time to manage meeting your deadline.
*Seek out formal speaking situations for greeting or thanking visitors at home or school.

10 Things to do when you're Sick
I'm not feeling too well this evening. I've got a bit of a migraine and it's really starting to tick me off.
These are 10 things to do when you are feeling under the weather.
1. One reason why you might feel sick is because your body is not getting enough fluids. So, get a big glass of water or juice or some herbal tea and drink anything that makes your body light rather than something that will make your body feel really heavy.
2. Ok, so if you're feeling a bit yuck and you don't have a sore tummy and don't have a sore tummy and are throwing up - repeat - you don't have a sore tummy and are throwing up, then try to eat maybe some fruit salad or fruit and yoghurt, but of course, if you're tummy is not feeling well, then do not do this tip.
3. Another tip is try to get a little bit of fresh air. Not too much so that you get even more sick, just a little bit of air.
4. Get some covers and try to take a big nap.
5. Another tip is to WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!
6. The next tip is to try to take some time away from your device. Try reading a book or just lie down. Don't do anything just lie down and close your eyes to rest.
7. If you're warm open a window. Try to get as much fresh air in as you can. Don't be active that much if you're really sore in some places and if you really really really really can't stand the temptation to be on a device, you can watch a little bit of netflix. Only a little.
8. If you really feel good, try showering. Try showering in colder water than you normally use but just a little colder than you usually use, if you must have some heat you can do it the same as usual.
9. When you are sick these clothes are essential. You must have some socks, a robe, some comfortable pajamas, a hair tie, a bucket, and last of all you need to need to have a nice warm fuzzy blanket. Well basically your favourite blanket.
10. And above all don't work yourself to the ground.
I hope these tips helped you when you are sick. Be sure to comment and tell your friends about my blog. Peace out!

Motivational tips for school
Ok here's the deal you don't like getting up early for school then you are exactly like me, but seriously I hate getting up for anything. You can paint a picture saying something encouraging like “School is a challenge but you can conquer it” and hang it up the place that you are going to wake up. So it motivates you and you won't wake feeling like ooh I don't want to go to school so I will fake sick. Well, don't I tell myself that 'school is a challenge but you can conquer it and I have a good day? One more tip that you can do is have a happy jar write things that make you happy on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. That's it for today's blog tell your friend about my blog and be sure to comment bye.
My speech
Good afternoon my name is Selestine and I think children should do chores without being paid.
I think it is wrong that parents give their kids money when they do chores around the house. Firstly I don’t think it is fair. Secondly, it doesn’t help them build up their capabilities to do chores. Thirdly it gives children the wrong message about the shared responsibility of being a member of a family.
If you do a lot of chores and your parents give you money, the money for the whole family is now with the kids. This is another reason why Children should not do chores for money.
Another reason Kids should do chores for no money is because it is not fair for the adults to do everything and everyone must be involved it family life within reason. What do I mean by within reason?
I mean not forcing kids to do chores. A parent should only force children if they need to and they are acting like a spoiled brat.
For example, when my dad was aged 9, he had a lot of responsibility.
Because he was the oldest of 4 children (he had 3 brothers and one sister) and his parents worked very late nights, he did a lot of the chores.
When everyone was asleep he would walk outside and go to sleep in the garage and he did not even get paid for all the things that he did.
I do a reasonable amount of chores on Saturday. For example, I wake up and spend all morning in my room and then when I go down for breakfast me and my dad and family clean the entire house.
When it was done we all eat a big breakfast together, so it motivates me and we do the same thing on Sundays.
I also believe it is unacceptable for parents to do all the hard work.
When kids are older they will have no idea how to do cooking, cleaning, laundry or anything.
Lots of kids are very privileged and live like princes and princesses and their parents behave like the servants which does not seem very fair.
Doing chores for money also gives children the wrong message. Kids get the message that they can get away with anything including not doing their chores or that they deserve money just for contributing to their family like it’s going above and beyond what should happen as a family member.
Children should start doing chores as soon as they are able to help. The best age to start it my opinion, your brother, sister or even your child is able to start at the age of 3.
An easy chore that you can start at is table setting you can draw how the table is supposed to be set so they can copy it when they are setting the real supper table. You can also remind children to put things back where they need to go and one more thing that children can do is dusting.
These are the reasons why kids should do chores for their families for no pocket money.
Thank-you

Studying tips
I know that everyone has a hard time studying and is sick of doing homework. If you're still in primary school you will agree that;
1. You don't get much choice in what you need to study which isn't fun. I am going to tell you that this is all going to change after you read this blog.
2. You don't like doing your homework
3. You want to do well in school
If you answered yes to one of these questions then this is the blog for you.
Studying tips
If you are anything like me you will procrastinate a lot of the time when you're doing your homework and trust me, these tips are for you.
Tip #1 When you sit down and you feel the urge to procrastinate, do not let the temptation get to you because you can choose to want to procrastinate or not. So, instead of being unprepared for studying you bring all your stuff with you.
Tip #2
Another quick tip is that you can write things that you need to remember on your mirror with a window marker.
Tip #3
I would suggest that you go to the library and study, but if you don't want to leave the house, you can simply make a fort and do your homework in there because that is really fun. You can also make a nook.

My Day one daily blog: Topic - Friends
I had an O.K day. I played and I got into a fight with my friends, so I didn't have a great day. I'm grateful that I had the strength to walk away and not get involved that much. So, a tip that I or you can use when you and your friends get into a fight is to try your best just to not get involved. Or, if what you want to say might make someone upset, just don't say it at all. One of my other tips would be to have a number one go to friend that you know that will not get you into a fight. And if you do end up getting into a fight with that person, then just go independent.
My plan for avoiding fights with friends:
1) Don't whisper
2) Don't let other people whisper to you and a good tip would be if you think that your friend is about to whisper something to you ask them "Is what you are about to say something that would hurt someone else's feelings?" And if the answer is yes or if the person doesn't answer, then it is pretty clear that you should both find something else to do or talk about that is not hurtful.
3) If you see other people whispering, tell them to stop or walk away or tell a teacher or learning coach
4) Try not to get involved in situations that will lead to a fight.
5) Another tip would be if you are too late and are already in a fight, don't say anything. Take a deep breath, relax, and your mind will not be filled with smoke and anger anymore but with a nice relaxation and peace and you can figure out what would be the best thing to do. I, for one, would say - I do not want to get involved if it's going to get me in trouble - and then you just walk away.
